About Us
Southland Machine Hire is a family owned and operated business. Andy Tuffley started the company over 45 years ago and believes it may have been the first dry hire company in the country. These days Wayne and John Tuffley manage the business, while Andy still looks in from time to time. While Andy may have started the business with just one vehicle, Southland Machine Hire now has a large fleet of vehicles for hire and offers a wide range of services including piloting, transporting and hi-ab.
Wayne Tuffley
Wayne has been in the earth moving and heavy equipment industry for over 30 years. He is in charge of the heavy haulage and transport arm of Southland Machine Hire. Wayne is a certified pilot and handles all of the associated permitting and paperwork. He really enjoys the variety and challenging nature of his work.
When he's not working, Wayne likes to watch his son race go carts, be out on the boat fishing or racing his Mustang in the pre-1965 class.
John Tuffley
John manages the workshop and machine hire side of the business. With over 14 years’ experience with hi-ab, he manages most of the incoming enquiries to Southland Machine Hire. John is the person you’ll most likely speak to at Southland Machine Hire and is in the office most days, answering all the incoming phone calls and emails. Like Wayne, he enjoys the variety and challenging nature of his work.
John races motorcycles in his spare time and is known around town as the ‘motorbike man’. John has about 10 national titles and is a proud member of the Southland Motorcycle Club.
